CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda asserted on Tuesday that the State unit of the Congress is not a divided house and the party would sweep the next elections. Talking to media persons at Ludhiana in Punjab after presiding over a function on the eve of the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr. Hooda made it clear that the party and not any individual was important. Asked to comment about “dissidents” in the party, he asserted that the party was supreme and above everyone. Mr. Hooda said that Haryana was constructing the Bhakra Main Line Hansi Branch-Butana Branch Multipurpose Link Canal to ensure equitable distribution of its own share of water. There was no question of using Punjab’s share of water, he added. About the setting up of a separate Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Haryana, he said the report of the committee headed by Agriculture Minister H. S. Chatha was awaited. Any decision would be taken keeping in view the sentiments of the Sikhs of Haryana. The Chief Minister made it clear that there was no opposition to the setting up pf special economic zones in the State as these SEZs would pave the way for development. Later he addressed members of the Ludhiana District Bar Association and said that “in case both Punjab and Haryana, who are like brothers, act unitedly without any controversy, they can make much headway in development”.
