Islamabad: About a hundred persons lit candles at a coffee shop here to show solidarity with Justice Rana Bhagwandas, the only Hindu judge of Pakistan’s Supreme Court who was not allowed to celebrate Diwali after being put under house arrest. “Thank you, Justice Bhagwandas and the six other judges for giving hope to our children. We will always be grateful to you and you will live forever in history,” read a note at the coffee shop. Justice Bhagwandas was among the apex court judges placed under house arrest after they refused to endorse the emergency imposed by Gen. Musharraf and issued an order annulling it. The 100 persons turned up on Saturday at Civil Junction, “to celebrate Diwali in solidarity with Justice Rana Bhagwandas, our courageous prisoner of conscience who was forced to celebrate this significant event at home,” the note said. — PTI
