Jharkhand athletes dominate

HARIDWAR: Jharkhand athletes dominated by winning three of the five gold medals on offer on the first day of the 5th junior National inter-district athletics championship here on Tuesday.

Dhiraj Soni won the boys’ under-16 800m run, while Kranti Gupta and Shweta Tirkey won the 800m titles in girls’ under-16 and under-14 categories respectively.

Vikas, representing Panipat (Haryana) won the boy’s under-14 800m event clocking 2 minutes and 12.3 seconds.

The results: Boys: U-16: 800m: 1. Dhiraj Soni 2:02.0, 2. Manoj Kumar 2:02.9, 3. Roshan Xalxo 2:03.2.

U-14: 800m: 1. Vikas 2:12.3, 2. Chhotelal Mahali 2:12.8, 3. D. Laxman 2:13.0.

Girls: U-16: 800m: 1. Kranti Gupta 2:25.3, 2. Pelong Deogam 2:25.9, 3. B. Sainath 2:26.1; Javelin: 1. Surekha Mundu 27.38m, 2. J. Shanthi 24.94, 3. Pritika Thukran 22.67.

U-14: 800m: 1. Shweta Tirkey 2:31.4, 2. Sonia 2:33.1, 3. Gurubari Soy 2:34.1.
