“Boycott of industrial fair unwarranted”

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Government on Tuesday termed as “unwarranted” the boycott of this year’s industrial fair by the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) since two of its major demands were fulfilled within a time-frame.

“Promises kept”

“During last year’s fair we promised the chambers of approving purchase policy and micro policy before the start of this year’s industrial fair. And we did it. As per their other demand, rehabilitation and resettlement policy, it is in the final shape and would be brought before the cabinet very soon, Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto said here.

Taking exception to the chamber’s boycott even after the Government asked it to change its stance and participate in the fair in the interest of the State, Mr. Mahto, who holds the Industry portfolio, termed the boycott as unwarranted.

FJCCI view

FJCCI president Arun Budhia said earlier fairs were held every four years and the last one was held in 2006.

“What is the point of holding the fair this year at a time when there is no change in the industrial environment?...Sree Leathers shoe owner was shot dead...There is Naxalism to bother about...The Government is yet to have a land bank,” Mr. Budhia alleged.“That is why we boycotted this year’s (week-long) industrial fair (starting on November 15),” he said.

Allegations dismissed

The Deputy Chief Minister, however, dismissed the allegations of the chamber saying the Government was seriously working to create an environment conducive to industrialists. “The Government is committed to making Jharkhand an industrial hub,” asserted Mr. Mahto. – PTI
