Vasundhara’s message on Cooperative Week

“Cooperative model should be popularised”

Provide loans, seeds and fertilisers to farmers, cooperatives told

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday underlined the significance of the cooperative sector in the light of globalisation and privatisation, while affirming that the cooperative movement would emerge as a crucial instrument for economic development.

In her message on the 54th All India Cooperative Week beginning on Wednesday, Ms. Raje said the cooperative model should be popularised for integrated development and cooperative bodies should be strengthened and their facilities expanded for benefiting farmers.

Ms. Raje said the State Government had taken the initiative to implement the Vaidyanathan package for empowerment of short-term cooperative credit institutions and carried out a special audit of the primary agricultural loan disbursal cooperative societies. About 19,000 chairpersons and managers of cooperative bodies were also trained as part of a human resource development scheme.

“For the first time, an advance storage of 2 lakh metric tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate has been completed for the rabi crop through the Rajfed,” said Ms. Raje, adding that the storage capacity of 1 lakh metric tonnes each would be evolved in the villages for extension of infrastructure facilities.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the State Cooperative Department had decided to enter the rural tourism sector to attract tourists to villages with rich heritage.

She called upon the cooperative bodies to provide loans, seeds and fertilisers to farmers in time to meet their essential needs.
