Boat operators told to follow norms

Rajahamundry: The boat and launch operators have been asked to follow all regulations stipulated in licence norms and conditions laid down by the police and irrigation departments.

A meeting of revenue, police, irrigation and forest officials with boat operators was held here Tuesday. . Speaking on the occasion, Officer on Special Duty (operations) PHD Ramakrishna asked the operators to maintain their boats properly and the police will conduct raids from Nov 14 at Polavaram and also Devipatnam.

He asked them not to operate boats after 6 p.m.

The OSD also asked operators to maintain the log book properly and note the names of passengers and restrict the number of passengers as prescribed in their licences. “If any one violates these norms and rules their boats will be seized and even their licences would be cancelled,” he warned.

Head-works executive engineer S.V. Narasimha Rao said boat operators should keep life jackets ready in their boats and also minimum facilities to passengers. He also asked them to deploy trained swimmers in boats.

Rajahmundry Urban tehsildar K. Narasimha Murthy said the government was ready to provide communication system in case of any eventuality. He said operators should bring their problems to the notice of the officials who are ready to solve them.

Irrigation Superintendent (boats) T. Kesava Rao, Rampachodavaram CI Veera Reddy, Devipatnam SI R. Ankababu, Rajahmundry SIs Gows Baig, K. Mahendra and motor boat operators participated in the meeting.
