Sand movement to T.N. and Lanka banned

HYDERABAD: Following discussions at the Cabinet meeting here on Tuesday, the Government banned movement of sand to Tamil Nadu and to Sri Lanka.

Officials have been asked to seize lorries going to Chennai from Nellore and keep watch on boats and schooners at Kakinada bound for Port Blair en route to Sri Lanka. .

Taking note of this illegal sand transportation, Chief Minister Y. S . Rajasekhara Reddy constituted a Cabinet sub-committee with the Ministers for Roads & Buildings, Panchayat Raj, Transport and Mining to study the problem and suggest ways to tackle the problem.
