Send UPA team: Congress

Staff Reporter

Kolkata: The West Bengal Congress has requested the United Progressive Alliance government to send a high-power team to violence-hit Nandigram.

The State leadership has also written to the Speaker urging him to summon the Assembly, ahead of the winter session, to discuss the situation in Nandigram.

“We have sent a letter to Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Mohsina Kidwai, AICC general secretary in-charge of West Bengal, requesting them to send a high-power UPA team to Nandigram to see how mass killings were organised, how people were evicted and how they are surviving in such a grave situation there,” said Congress Legislature Party leader Manas Bhunia said here on Tuesday.

The State Congress said the time had come to set up a secular, democratic front in the State that would save the democratic rights of the people, now “in a crisis.”
