HYDERABAD: The election authorities of the twin cities have decided to put up permanent designated photo centres in each Assembly constituency for eligible voters to get photographed throughout the year. “Depending on the size of the constituency we will set up one or two photo centres after the entire verification process is over and the final rolls are printed,” disclosed GHMC Additional Commissioner (Elections) Dharma Reddy on Tuesday. He also made it clear that there will be no entry in the electoral roll without an accompanying photograph. House to house verification teams have fanned out in different corners of the capital with an enumerator and a digital cameraman to take photographs from each household or collect photos if any family member is not present for the last 15 days. However, officials are not taking entries of persons working abroad for a year or more. The rule apparently was always there but is being followed more stringently for preparation of photo electoral rolls. “We will allow entry into the voters list if the person is outside the city for a short visit only,” clarified an official. While 85 per cent of work is through the digital cameras, the rest is through collection of photos. The draft photo electoral rolls would be published by the scheduled date of November 28. The next 17 days will be for receiving claims and objections, disposal by December. 26 so that the final rolls can be published by January 7, 2008.
