Citizens rendered powerless

Power outages, lightning strikes and voltage fluctuations often result in large-scale damage to household electronic appliances.

Every year, hundreds of electronic meters, television sets, music systems, computers and DVD players are damaged in power surges caused mainly by lightning strikes. Kerala is also one of the biggest markets for voltage stabilisers allegedly owing to t he debatable quality of power.
