Chennai: As many as 700 NCC cadets from various schools and colleges carried placards and called out slogans to create awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention during a rally here on Tuesday.
Lt.Col. V. Alex Chandran, Officer Commanding, 1 (TN) Armd. Squadron NCC, flagged off the rally on the Madras Medical College grounds. The cadets carried out their campaign at various points, including near the Government Hospital, Central Station and Pallavan House.
“No cure, no vaccine. Only prevention is possible,” said one of the placards carried by students. Another poster warned that the immune system could collapse due to HIV infection.
The messages, in both Tamil and English, were about the various precautions to be taken to prevent transmission of the HIV virus. The rally also proved informative to the students. Lt. S. Santhosh Baboo was the liaison officer for the awareness programme.
