Yesteryear laugh riot now on DVD

Evergreen COMEDY: A scene from the telefilm ‘Appusamiyum Apprikka Azhagium’.

Subha Creations has now made the popular story ‘Appusamiyum Apprikka Azhagium’ available on DVD/VCD formats.

Appusamy stories, which were published in Tamil weekly Kumudam in 1960 were very popular. Readers of the magazine cannot forget the Appusamy - Seetha paati couple and the various incidents in their life that had readers laughing to their heart’s content.

According to producer and director Bombay Kannan, the story of Appusamy was a classic. “When I was young I used to read Bagyam Ramasamy, who wrote the Appusamy stories, a lot. I used to wonder how he brought in African beauty Iddili and played pranks on the Appusamy couple. After starting my own production house, Subha Creations, I wanted to film Appusamy stories,” he said.

Bhagyam Ramasamy is said to have shown keen interest in the project. “I wanted to do it mainly to preserve the immortal stories and make the characters come alive in front of us. Now one can see Kathadi Ramamurthy playing Appusamy and Meera Krishnan playing Seetha paati. The African beauty Iddili is Sangeetha Balan.”

The story and the dialogues have been written by Bagyam Ramasamy and the screenplay and direction are by Bombay Kannan.
