Voicing concern: Students at the exhibition on global warming in Mannivakkam on Monday.

TAMBARAM: Seminars and models explaining the impact of global warming, shadow shows and screening of an award winning documentary film on environment formed part of a three-day arts and science exhibition on ‘Melting Glaciers – A Global Menace’ at Shri Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Mannivakkam near Tambaram.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Monday.

Students told visitors, mostly students from schools in and around Tambaram, about the growing international concern about problems caused by global warming. A consequence of global warming would be the melting of glaciers, including those in the Himalayas from where major rivers in the Indian sub-continent originate and flow through some of the most densely populated regions in the world, students said.

Inaugurated

The event was inaugurated by Charles Rodrigues, Kancheepuram District Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

Special screening

N. Ramasubramanyan, school correspondent, said a special screening of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, the Oscar winning film on former American Vice-President Al Gore’s campaign on global warming, was scheduled.
