Local court gives judgement in the murder case of financier in June 2003

HYDERABAD: K. Shailaja, who was held guilty of murdering a financier T. Prabhakar in S.R. Nagar, was sentenced to life-imprisonment by a local court on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Hyderabad, Samudrala Govindarajulu announced the quantum of sentence in the sensational murder in which the accused had chopped off the victim’s limbs and head and hid them in different parts of her apartment building. Shailaja used to live in a rented flat in Bhanu Towers of Kalyan Nagar Venture-3 with her two children. Her husband K. Venkatramaiah went underground having run into financial crisis as a placement consultant duped him of huge money.

Assures job

Claiming that her husband was working in America, Shailaja reportedly collected nearly one lakh rupees from a family friend Ranjit, assuring him to secure a job overseas in 2003.

As Ranjit insisted on returning his money, Shailaja befriended Prabhakar, a financier who owned a printing press, and sought loan from him. On the evening of June 25, Prabhakar came to her flat with the money. After receiving the cash, Shailaja sedated him by offering water laced with acetone used in nail polish remover.

Missing case

She continued to put him under sedation for the next three days by administering acetone whenever he woke up and smothered him to death on seeing reports in newspapers on June 28 about the missing case of Prabhakar registered by the police.

The Jubilee Hills police, who were investigating into the missing case of Prabhakar, found that he received 18 calls from a particular number on his mobile phone on the day he went missing. They traced the number to Shailaja.

By the time the police reached her flat, Shailaja had cut off the victims head, legs, hands and concealed them in the store room, balcony and on the building terrace. Initially, she feigned ignorance but confessed to the killing after the police found the victim’s body parts in the flat.
