He urged Samsung to speed up the setting up of the production facility in the Special Economic Zone. It would give a boost to exports from the region.

Initiatives

Recognising the importance of skilled manpower for hi-tech industries, Mr. Karunanidhi said various initiatives had been planned in collaboration with industry to improve the infrastructure at industrial training institutes, revise the course content and provide right inputs so that students found placement in industries.

In his message from New Delhi, Union Telecommunications and IT Minister A. Raja said the electronics hardware industry had a bright future. By 2012 India would become a major manufacturing hub.

He cited the improved infrastructure and industrial policy as the reasons for the growth of electronics hardware sector in India in general and Tamil Nadu in particular.

Second facility

This facility has been set up in eight months with the aim of making it a global manufacturing hub.
