Crucial win for EME

HYDERABAD: EME Centre scored a crucial 2-0 win over SAI (Kurnool) in the super league of the SAAP Premier League football tournament here on Tuesday.

Winger Abud Bin Sayeed put EME ahead in the 30th minute through a fine solo effort.

In the second session, SAI fought back, but was unfortunate in not scoring. First, Uday’s shot from close range hit the crossbar and bounced back in the 55th minute. Within 10 minutes, Rajesh was unlucky to see his free-kick again hit the crosspiece.

However, undeterred, EME attacked and scored the second goal in the 87th minute when Dharani Dharam was on target after a solo effort.

CASC wins

Cantonment Area Sports Club recorded a solitary-goal win over Cross Wings in the Junior State hockey championship here.

The winner came in the 18th minute of the first-half through left-out Nandu Lal.

In another match, GHMC Amberpet notched up a 2-0 win over BHEL (R&D) with M. Chandrasekhar and Ujura Singh being the scorers.

Medak District Hockey Association scored a 1-0 win over Tarbund XI in the last match of the day with centre-forward B. Bhaskar netting the winner.

High Court lifts trophy

AP High Court won the fourth M.L. Ganu memorial lawyers’ cricket tournament with a seven-wicket win over City Civil Court in the final here.

The scores: Final: City Civil Court, Hyd, 110 lost to AP High Court 112 for three (Vamseedhar Reddy 41 not out).

Semifinals: Sec’bad Court 84 in 16 overs lost to City Civil Court, Hyd, 85 for no loss (Karan 40).

Nampally Criminal Court 127 for seven lost to AP High Court 129 for one (N. Vijay 67 not out).

SCR in semifinals

South Central Railway women scored a 60-29 win over YMCA, Secunderabad in the quarterfinals of the GHMC Open basketball tournament.

The scores: Women: Quarterfinals: SCR 60 (Ashiana 17, Mouda 10) bt YMCA Sec’bad 29.

Men: Pre-quarterfinals: SCR 73 (Rajasekhar 19, Tirupathi 14, Varma 10) bt Nehrungar PG 26 (Arkim 10).

Sunil, Venkat shine

Centuries by Sunil (100 not out) of NMDC and Venkat (122 not out) of State Bank of Hyderabad ‘B’ were the highlights of the third JDA Corporate Olympiad cricket tournament here.

Sohail Baymeen (128 not out) helped Manchester defeat Vijayanagar by 198 runs in an ‘A’-division (one-day) knock-out cricket championship.
