City to celebrate Children’s Day

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is estimated that India has the maximum number of children in the world. Nearly 41 per cent of the country’s population are children below the age of 14.

As the country celebrates Children’s Day today, the occasion will be marked by a series of activities by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. The proceedings will begin in the morning with the release of a Children’s Day stamp brought out by the council. The stamp will be released by Minister for Health and Social Welfare P.K. Sreemathy. At S.M.V. Higher Secondary School,

Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar will receive the children who have been elected as this year’s ‘President,’ ‘Prime Minister’ and ‘Speaker.’ The function will also be attended by Mayor C. Jayan Babu, MP Panniyan Raveendran and MLA V. Sivankutty.

The public function will be followed by a rally to be attended by over 10,000 children. The rally will conclude at the University College stadium.
