Enjoyable: Children thronging Mysore zoo on Wednesday. MYSORE: Children thronged the Mysore zoo on Wednesday as entry was free on Children’s Day. Around 25,000 children from Mysore and surrounding places visited the zoo from 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The children, who had brought snacks and lunch with them, had a gala time watching the animals and birds. They relaxed in the garden after watching the animals. Since they anticipated a huge turnout, the zoo management had asked the police to make security arrangements. More than 20 policemen led by a sub-inspector had been deployed in the zoo to oversee the safety and security of the children. Many schoolchildren had come in groups accompanied by their teachers. Some had come with their parents and siblings. An officer at the zoo said, “The turnout was huge. We had expected a good crowd but the number of children who came was beyond our expectation. We had to advance the visiting hours by an hour because of the response.” Every year, on Children’s Day, entry for children to the zoo is be free. After visiting the zoo, many children went to the Dasara Exhibition as entry there also was free. The Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) had made the entry free in order to encourage more children to visit the exhibition and have fun.
