Marching ahead: Students of NCLP School taking out a rally in Berhampur on Wednesday. — BERHAMPUR: Students of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) School here took out a rally against child labour on Wednesday to mark the Children’s Day. The students, who earlier worked as child labourers, shouted slogans urging people not to rob children of their childhood. The rally ended at the City High School, where the Education Department was holding a children’s talent hunt programme. Cultural programmesStudents of the NCLP School also took part in various events in the programme. Their science projects drew the attention of the audience. These projects had a touch of professionalism as some of them earlier worked as helps of mechanics. They mingled with the students of other schools during the competitions. It was also an effort to end the inferiority complex in the minds of these children, said Diptiranjan Mohanty, the project director of NCLP in Ganjam district. Children’s Day was also celebrated at all major schools in the city. But the celebrations at the residential girls’ school for the blind at Gosaninuagaon area was slightly different. ‘Well Baby’ contestChildren of the locality and people from all walks of life reached the school to celebrate Children’s Day with the visually challenged girls. A cultural programne was also organised by the students of the school to entertain the guests. To mark the occasion, the Berhampur unit of the YMCA and Christian Hospital organised a ‘Well Baby’ competition on the hospital premises. More than 150 children – from newborns to five-year-olds – participated in three categories of the competition. A panel of paediatricians adjudged the health of the children. A cultural programme was organised on the hospital premises in the evening where the winners of different competitions were awarded.
