Ramadoss applauds Rajasthan

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has praised Rajasthan for its successful implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) and called upon other States to emulate the model evolved by Rajasthan.

The performance of Rajasthan came up for review at a conference of the National Council for Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi on Tuesday. Dr. Ramadoss said the NRHM had helped transform health care services in the State’s remote villages.

Rajasthan Health Minister Digambar Singh, addressing the conference, said the State Government had paid special attention to health care and education and was paying more remuneration to doctors and paramedical staff working in villages.

“We have identified areas needing additional efforts in each district in view of difficult topography in the desert State. The primary and community health centres in these areas have been spruced up,” said Dr. Singh.

Dr. Singh suggested that the national malaria control programme be reviewed to check the wastage of money and equipment due to several shortcomings in its execution.

He said a new action plan should be formulated to control dreaded diseases such as malaria and dengue fever.
