“85% of work on computerising Registration Department over”

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Eighty-five per cent of the work on computerisation of the Registration Department has been completed, and the remaining work would be completed soon, according to the Minister for Registration and Tourism N. Suresh Rajan.
Inaugurating the office of the sub-registrar and the panchayat union office in Vembakkam in Tiruvannamalai district on Wednesday, Mr. Suresh Rajan said that while the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government closed down 40 sub-registrar’s offices, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government has taken steps to reopen all the closed offices. It has been decided to reopen 10 sub-registrar’s offices throughout the State this year. In Tiruvannamalai district, sub-registrar’s offices were opened in Vembakkam and Keezhkodungalur on Wednesday. Now, there were 13 sub-registrar’s offices in Tiruvannamalai division and 12 sub-registrar’s offices in Cheyyar division. A sub-registrar’s office would be inaugurated in Brammadesam next year. The Minister said that the Registration Department stood third among the various departments in earning revenue to the government. During 2006-2007, the sub-registrar’s offices in the Cheyyar division earned a revenue Rs.17.35 crore against a target of Rs.11.92 crore.
During 2007-08, the division netted a revenue of Rs.14.27 crore so far, against a target of Rs.24.45 crore.
E.V. Velu, Food Minister, said that the Chief Minister has ordered that a family card should be given to an applicant within 60 days of application.
A family card has become an essential document for each family for various purposes such as obtaining driving licence, passport, etc., he said. The Minister distributed loans to the tune of Rs.20.18 lakh to 11 women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and one men’s SHG and marriage assistance of Rs.120 lakhs to eight persons.
