HASSAN: While children all over the country were celebrating Children’s Day, three students who were beaten up for plucking guavas are undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Arakalgud. This incident occurred at Yelagattavallikoppalu village on Monday. The three boys have been identified as Guru (10), Ramesh (10) and Ravi (15). Additional Superintendent of Police Umesh Pangam said that on Monday, the boys had come to Yelagattavalli village to grind rice and wheat in a flour mill. On their way back to Yelagattavallikoppalu, they saw a guava tree full of fruit. The tree stood on land owned by Narasimha Shetty. Enraged on seeing the children climbing the tree to gather fruit, Narasimha Shetty and his son Nagaraj locked them up in a room in their farmhouse till 7 p.m. on Monday. However, Ramesh and Guru escaped through the window of the room and informed the elders of the village. On being informed, they came to Yelagattavalli village and rescued Ravi. Tension prevailed as Narasimha Shetty and the village residents were engaged in a heated war of words. The children, who had been severely beaten up, were taken to the hospital in Arakalgud for treatment. The Arakalgud police have registered a case.
