TALACAUVERY (KODAGU District): Mahima Patel, Channagiri MLA and son of the former Chief Minister, J.H. Patel, launched the “Suvarna Yuga” party here on Wednesday. Mr. Mahima Patel’s mother, Sarvamangala Patel, lit a lamp to mark the launch of the new political outfit in Karnataka. The party’s birth was based on democratic values and principles, Mr. Patel said. The party would live up to the expectations of the people, he said while addressing a gathering of supporters. Mr. Patel said lakhs of people supported his idea of floating a new party. He particularly expected to garner support of the youth and engage them in State-building activities. Earlier, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Patel said he broke away from the Janata Dal (S) not because the party refused to hand over power to the BJP, but for reneging on a promise. He was not pleased with the present political arrangement where the BJP and the Janata Dal (S) had come together again. To a question on managing the new political outfit, Mr. Patel said great names in mythology and history tasted defeats many times before emerging grand winners. He expected to emulate their feat. A minute’s silence was observed to pay homage to the soldiers from Kodagu who laid down lives for the country.
