Four more Bhavan centres to come up in State

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: As it prepares for the eight-day annual Bhavanotsava festival on November 16, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has big plans for the State: a CBSE school in Bangalore’s Srirampura, to be launched in partnership with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), and four more centres, one each in Shimoga, Bellary, Hubli-Dharwad and Davangere.

The Bhavan will soon sign an MoU with the BBMP to launch the Srirampura school with 300 students from the next academic year.

The proposal has been cleared by the State Government, according to the Bhavan’s Director (Programmes and Projects), H.N. Suresh. “This will be first of its kind. We also plan to have similar MoUs with other municipal corporations in the State,” he said.

The Bhavan’s Shimoga centre would have a school and a postgraduate centre offering diploma programmes.

The Davangere centre, to be built on a three-acre plot, would have a school and a cultural centre.

Land had already been allotted for a management school at the proposed Hubli-Dharwad centre, Mr. Suresh said.

Coinciding with the Bhavanotsava launch will be the release of six books of K.M. Munshi, translated into Kannada. Scheduled for release are the titles: “Rashtriya Thurthu Paristithi Mathu Adara Samasyegalu,” “Ondu Yugada Anthya,” “Jaya Somanatha,” “Naavu Kanda Prapancha,” “Bhagavan Parashurama” and “Bharathada Samvidanadadiyalli Rashtrapati.”

The 38th edition of Bhavanotsava will feature daily cultural programmes, including music, dance, theatre, visual arts, folk, yoga, and a book exhibition.

Artistes such as Yakshagana maestro Heranga Krishna Bhatt, violin virtuoso T.S. Krishnamurthy, flute duo B.K. Anantharam and Amit Nadig, T.A.S. Mani on the mridangam and Rajendra Nakod on tabla will be part of the cultural events lined up on all the eight days of the festival. Entry to all the programmes is free.
