Oil majors to give 5 lakh LPG connections to poor families by March

TIRUPUR: Following a request from the Tamil Nadu Government to the Centre, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has geared itself up to provide 1.25 lakh LPG connections to below poverty line (BPL) families in the State by March.
All three oil majors - Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and BPCL - would give a total of five lakh LPG connections, said S. Radhakrishnan, Director (Marketing), BPCL, on Tuesday.
Mr. Radhakrishnan was participating in the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Sri Gowri Dhurga Gas Services here.
He told media persons that they had so far given 25,000 connections in this category. Senior officials of the oil majors were in touch with the Government and the companies would release the connections once the Government gave them the list of beneficiaries and paid the deposit.
He said to meet the increasing demand, the company had initiated process to appoint more distributors in the State.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said the company had no waiting list as it gave new connections across the counter. On shortage of supply of refills, he maintained that there was no backlog.
S.K. Jain, executive director, LPG, BPCL, said that the company would introduce innovative methods to improve customer relationship.
“We are going to provide all requirements at kitchen besides LPG at less than the market rates, but there will be no compulsion for the customers to buy them,” he added.
