This Day That Age
Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor, Madras University, speaking on the White Paper on Education in the Legislative Council on November 13, justified the introduction of the three-year degree course and said that it was done after due consideration by various committees for over two years and with the approval of the Senate and Academic Council of the University. He claimed that the students would not feel much difficulty in facing three public examinations successively as the young men of our country were as good and receptive as any students in the world. In regard to the use of the regional language as the medium of instruction in colleges also the Vice-Chancellor said that a tremendous responsibility was involved in it as it would radically affect generations of students, and it had to be considered whether it would not prejudice the much needed development of the country in various fields.
