Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial, ‘The challenge of Nandigram’ (Nov. 12). Obviously, the Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties have become desperate after the CPI(M)- led Left Front government in West Bengal defied the “anti-incumbency factor’ for the seventh consecutive time in the Assembly elections. Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s statement that her party would “paralyse West Bengal” indefinitely, shows her frustration. Syed Sultan Mohiddin, Kadapa The situation calls for a thorough soul-searching by all concerned. The ruling Left Front in West Bengal, the UPA at the Centre, and the Trinamool Congress — all have to take their share of blame in the situation developing in into what it is. Ushadevi Suddapalli & Bhaskara Rao, Muscat Congratulations for taking a brave stand and coming out in support of the Left parties when the entire world seems to think that they are in the wrong. Only time will tell us who the perpetrators of these unlawful incidents are. P. Tandava Krishnan, Hyderabad The tragic situation is only the tip of the iceberg. Nandigrams are waiting to happen in several other places. The causes? Backwardness, poverty, and illiteracy. Innocent and helpless people continue to be exploited by vested interests everywhere, ultimately leading to chaotic and violent situations forcing governments to step in to bring the situation under control. A. Saratchandran Menon, Palakkad
