Letters to the Editor
The article, ‘Needed, a code of child rights’ (Nov. 14) by V.R. Krishna Iyer is a forceful protest against the wilful negation of the values of socialism enshrined in the preamble to the Constitution by the government in power, Parliament and the political leadership of India. With liberalisation and globalisation the corner stone of our economic system, the objective of socialism has been totally abandoned. Justice Iyer’s article has thrown up a challenge to our political leadership. L.M. Aloysius Joseph, Vypeen, Kerala The author’s lament that our leaders have scant respect for the Indian child is true in every sense. The girl child is the worst sufferer. A comprehensive code of child rights is a desideratum. M.P.R. Nair, Kochi Gururajan Ramachandran, Udhagamandalam
