HYDERABAD: Anguished over the persistent disruption of proceedings by slogan-shouting Telugu Desam members on Wednesday, Assembly Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy virtually walked away from his chair after stating that he would return only after the floor leaders met him in his chambers. The behaviour of members of the main opposition party in storming the podium and arguing with the Chair evoked a sharp rebuke from all other opposition parties. They were upset after the Speaker cut off the mike of their deputy leader T. Devender Goud and admonished him for misusing the opportunity for making remarks against the Government instead of registering his party’s protest at the end of a discussion on Backward Classes. They remained defiant even though the Speaker requested them with folded hands to resume their seats. Chiding them for making a “mockery of democracy’, he said, the House could not be used for political issues. Terming the TDP members’ action as “worst behaviour”, he asked “Is this a tamasha?” However, the Speaker found himself in a piquant situation with neither the Treasury benches nor non-TDP parties coming to his rescue. An exasperated Mr. Suresh Reddy asked all floor leaders to observe what was happening and come to his chambers. He left the chair without specifying the duration of the adjournment.
