Vaccination programme for sheep

VIZIANAGARAM: Animal Husbandry Department is launching mass vaccination programme to control cough, bloat and diarrhoea (PPR disease) in sheep and goats in all mandals in the district from Nov 15.

Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) K. Krishna Murty told The Hindu on Wednesday the mass vaccination programme would control deaths due to the disease that had been reporting for the past couple of years from several mandals such as Gajapatinagaram, Bondapalli, Cheepurupalli, Dattirajeru etc in the district as well as in other districts in the State. Dr. Krishna Murty said the department had received five lakh doses.

With regard to distribution of milch cattle to SCs and STs, he said the Government had sanctioned 4,000 units for the district. About 5,000 applications were received seeking allotment of units and the bankers had so far given consent letters to 215 applicants, he said .
