DOUBLE QUICK: Rural Development Director Gagandeep Singh Bedi reviewing ongoing development works in Karur district.
KARUR: Expedite ongoing rural development works and bring the infrastructure to public use soon, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Director Gagandeep Singh Bedi said here on Monday.
Undertaking a review of all rural development works with officials here, Mr. Bedi said that 3,732 works were taken up during the current year under various heads of which 692 have been completed.
He gave directions to field officials to complete the works as soon as possible.
Most of the works pertain to Indira Awaz Yojana under which group houses were being constructed and given free of cost, kuchha houses were being upgraded into pucca houses, infrastructure development works were undertaken as part of the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam and road works.
Mr. Bedi observed that during 2006-07, a total of 5,582 works were taken up through the District Rural Development Agency of which a 5,004 have been completed. The remaining would be completed soon, he added.
Crucial role
Collector T.N. Venkatesh, detailing the progress of the ongoing works in the district, said that officials were striving to meet the physical and financial targets under various rural development schemes.
Development wings held the key to successful completion of projects meant for the downtrodden and the poor. Officials had a crucial role to play in executing the projects in time, he said.
Project Officer, DRDA, M. Madhavi, officials from various departments, commissioners of municipalities, panchayat union commissioners, executive officers of town panchayats, and other officials participated in the deliberations.
