MAHABUBNAGAR: After women self help groups(SHG) now Government is contemplating to form ‘Jeevamitra’ groups for the benefit of shepherd community, according to Minister for Animal Husbandary Mandali Udda Prasad. Addressing the Kodangal constituency level shepherd societies meeting at Kodangal mandal headquarters in the district on Wednesday the Minister said that State government was determined to strengthen shepherd societies by extending financial assistance by forming Jeevamitra groups like women self help groups. He also said that it was under consideration of the government to provide loans to Jeevamitra groups on pavala vaddi(on 25 paise interest). He informed that for the welfare of the shepherds in the State, the government has introduced Jeeva kranthi pathakam and allocated an amount of Rs.45 crore under which as many as 50,000 families would get benefit. Unit allocationThe Minister further informed that out of 12,000 sheep and goat units 4,500 units were allocated to Mahabubnagar district besides allocating 4,850 breeding rams to the district. Mr. Prasad said that sheep market yard was also sanctioned to the district besides establishing a deccan breed sheep research centre. Zilla Parishad Vice Chairperson Krishna, shepherd society district President Balappa, and others participated.
