SRIVILLIPUTTUR: The Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, inaugurated works under the newly launched Anaithu Peruratchi Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in the district on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering at W. Pudupatti near here, the Minister said that no one would have imagined that a town panchayat would be given an allocation of Rs.50 lakh to carry out development works. “The Chief Minister is not only implementing all those schemes he promised during the election campaign, but also many other programmes,” he said. The new scheme was aimed at providing all facilities available in cities to town panchayats too.
The Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that apart from W. Pudupatti, S. Kodikulam and Sundarapandiyam were selected for the scheme. A total of 122 works would be taken up at a cost of Rs.1.50 crore in these town panchayats, he said.
The Minister gave away benefits to the tune of Rs.9.18 lakh to 128 persons. The Assistant Director (Town Panchayats) Chandrasekaran, Srivilliputtur MLA, T. Ramasamy were among those who spoke on the occasion.
