Man killed in road accident

MANGALORE: An employee of a private firm here was killed and four of his friends were injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned near the KSRTC workshop on National Highway 17 on Wednesday.

The Urwa police, who have registered a case, identified the victim as Jector Mascarenhas (21).

Two persons who came to a reputed jewellery store in Puttur as customers have been accused of stealing 166.34 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.65 lakh from the showroom on Saturday. The accused have been named as Babu Kasargod and Bhaseer.

District Crime Intelligence Bureau personnel arrested a person from Karkikoppa in Shimoga district who was attempting to cheat people by trying to pass off semi-precious gem stones as genuine stones.

The accused was named as Srinivas Murthy (57), according to a press release.

The Kavoor police carried out a raid on a building at Kavoor and arrested 20 persons on gambling charges on Tuesday. Police seized Rs. 2,095 in cash and playing cards.
