MADURAI: The selection process for appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University will begin soon after the Syndicate meeting scheduled for November 20.
As the three-year term of the incumbent, P. Maruthamuthu, ends on March 6, the university administration will have to begin the formalities early so that the State Government could set up a search panel, official sources said here on Wednesday.
The panel will recommend three names to the Governor from a list of applicants.
The university will have two nominees on the search panel: one will be elected from the Senate and the other from the Syndicate. The panel will be headed by the Governor’s nominee. A gazette notification will be issued after the panel is constituted, and scrutiny of applications will be taken up.
University officials said a special meeting of the Senate would have to be convened to decide on the election of the university’s nominee. “Normally, the Government requires three months for the selection process. So, the Senate nominee will be decided first,” an official said.
As per the procedure, the incumbent Vice-Chancellor will have to start the process by writing to the Government on formation of the search committee.
