VELLORE: The School of Computing Sciences of VIT University is organising a 6-day Seminar on Theoretical Computer Science on the university campus in two phases in November and January. The first phase, to be held from November 21 to 23, will cover basic and introductory topics, while the second phase, from January 21 to 23, will deal with the advanced topics.
H.R. Vishwakarma of the School of Computing Sciences and the Steering Chair for the seminar said the field of Theoretical Computer Science has been the backbone for development of the present day computing sciences. Though the basic theoretical computer science courses like theory of computation-formal languages, automation theory, algorithms and cryptography are being taught at the undergraduate level in engineering colleges and universities, the advanced concepts in this field are not adequately covered at the postgraduate level.
