Security forces on high alert in Kashmir

Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR: Resurgence of militants in different parts of Kashmir has brought the valley back on the violent map as nearly 20 people were killed in two major encounters in past ten days. Even as the security forces have been put on high alert, officials believe that it was a temporary phase ahead of winter months.

After the major encounter in Ringwari in Tangmarg area last month, the fierce gun battle in Pattan and suicide attack in Sopore lasted for four days indicating the capacity the militant ranks were building within.

Top level officials believe that the resurgence is due to the Emergency in Pakistan as the possibility of pushing militants from across the border could not be ruled out.
