BJP set to return to power in Gujarat: survey

Narendra Modi

New Delhi: The ruling BJP in Gujarat will return to power winning 100 of the 182 seats in next month’s Assembly elections, a survey has projected.

However, the CNN-IBN-Indian Express-Divya Bhaskar survey shows a five per cent decline in the BJP vote share since the 2002 poll.

Despite the decline in the vote share, the BJP still leads the Congress by a five per cent vote share margin, securing 45 per cent of total votes. This lead could fetch the BJP 100 seats against 76 for the Congress.

The poll predicts a tie with the BJP and the Congress winning 88 seats each if the saffron party’s lead drops further by an additional 4%.

The opinion poll suggests that 63 per cent of the electorate is satisfied with the performance of the Modi government, a four per cent increase since 2002.

As many as 18 per cent Muslims believed there was an improvement in the law and order situation over the past five years, while 31 per cent felt the situation had worsened. — PTI
