BJP to project Modi all the way in Gujarat

Neena Vyas

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s mega election campaign in Gujarat will be unveiled in a couple of days. The three-point campaign is to project Chief Minister Narendra Modi all the way: Modi as the ideological hero of Hindutva; Modi as the sole leader of Gujarat; and Modi as the man who has out-performed everyone before him.

A senior party leader said here on Wednesday that the two buzz words were ‘Jeetega Gujarat’ — Gujarat will win. The Video clips to go with that slogan show Mr. Modi against a map of Gujarat talking about his government’s achievements.

The video presentation — made to reporters here — shows Modi the development man, Modi the man with total integrity, Modi the anti-terrorist, Modi who cares for Gujarat, Modi who has identified all his dreams and aspirations with those of Gujarat. Said a senior BJP leader: “We want to establish the Gujarat-Modi bond first, and then the Gujarat-BJP bond.”

Highly placed party sources said the BJP planned to appropriate for itself the “pro-Gujarat” label, and in the second phase of the campaign to label the Congress, its main opponent as “anti-Gujarat”. In the second phase, it also plans to use a few visuals of BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani and Rajnath Singh.

The ‘Jeetega Gujarat’ campaign is an answer to the Congresss’ party’s ‘Chak de Gujarat’ or ‘Chak de Congress’ campaign. The central election committee is expected to finalise the candidates around November 20, the first major rally to mark the start of the campaign could take place around November 26.

“One of the slogans Modiji will use in the video clips is ‘Na main khata hoon, na main khane deta hoon,’ said a senior leader. This means he does not take a bribe, nor does he allow his ministers and others to take bribes.
