Vision India-TN league in March

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Vision India–Tamil Nadu project of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) came into focus again on Wednesday when the AFC representative and Development Officer, Suvrat Thatte, had further discussions with the Tamil Nadu Football Association (TFA) team of officials on its implementation.

This was basically a follow up of the meeting that the TFA officials had in Kuala Lumpur a couple of months back.

Mr. C.R. Visswanathan, President, TFA, who led the host delegation, said Thatte was keen that the league should be held in the two pilot districts that were selected —Chennai and Dindigul — in January 2008.

But after discussions, it was agreed by TFA to have this league, to be named Vision India-Tamil Nadu league in March.

“The local senior division programme will be renamed and conducted as a double-leg league. In this, each of the 12 teams will play the other twice,” he said.

Thatte, he said, wanted steps to be taken for appointing a paid secretary and development officers.

“But we sought clarifications on the financial commitment from AFC in this regard. He has agreed to come back to us after checking up with AFC officials in Kuala Lumpur.

“Once this is known we will go about for the selection after duly advertising in the media. Initially, the selected secretary will be called Chief Executive Officer and when the TFA constitution is amended as per AFC requirement for incorporating the provision for a paid secretary, it will be change to General Secretary,” Visswanathan said.

The need for ‘C’ licence coaches for the senior division clubs and improving the lot of referees were other areas discussed and it was decided that AFC will organise special courses prior to the league. Also, the Asian body proposed to organise a workshop for the club administrators to take to professional line of working.
