Ranganath, Madaiah, A.N. Vijaya Murthy, K. Poornima and K.N. Mahendra, Director of Correspondence Courses, recently visited the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) headquarters in New Delhi, and held discussions with its Vice-Chancellor Rajashekhar Pillai and pro-Vice-Chancellor Latha Pillai. Issues related to launch of new programmes, improvement of financial structures, and steps to enhance quality of output were discussed. Koreans at BUA delegation of 12 Korean journalists from top Korean print and television media visited the Bangalore University Department of Foreign Languages. They attended a Korean certificate class and interacted with the students and Korean language teacher T.V.S. Murthy. The department chairman, K. Eresi, gave them a brief introduction of the department and elaborated on the future plans to establish a Centre for Global Languages by 2010. The Korean delegation, led by Lee Tae Hoon, World News Editor for the Chosun Ilbo newspaper, assured the department to procure the Korean Embassy’s assistance to strengthen the Korean section in the Department of Foreign Languages. Tourism eventThe Academy of Business Management, Tourism and Research (ABMTR) has organised a one-day seminar on “Indian Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges” on November 15. The event will feature a paper presentation competition for graduate and postgraduate students. Also lined up for the day is a panel discussion by corporate representatives and the academia on “Tourism Industry: HR issues and solutions.” Back from ParisFor Malav Varu and Komal Kalwani from the M.S. Ramaiah College of Hotel Management, the four-month internship programme at Vatel, France, turned out to be an enriching experience.
