C. Pattabhi, Airport Controller, Visakhapatnam airport:
“Compared to 2005 and 2006, there is no flooding of runway this year as the new 10,000 feet runway and apron is constructed well above the old one and the 20,000 square metre new eco-friendly terminal would greatly take care of passengers’ needs. Once the terminal and night landing facility is open to public, we can witness more domestic and international flights in our city skylines. The passenger traffic, which was 1.5 lakh in 2004-05, is growing at over 30 per cent every year and during 2007-08 it is expected to cross half a million. With more airlines expected to join the 12 flight services available per day now through six carriers, there is no doubt that Vizag’s air connectivity would be one of the best in any of the tier-II cities.”
