Student killed in road accident on way to funeral Crime notes

BANGALORE: A student nurse, who was on his way to Kerala to attend his grandfather’s funeral, was killed in a road accident on National Highway 4 in Peenya on Wednesday. The police gave his name as D.M. Joji (22), a student of Sarojini Nursing College in Chikkabanavara on Hesarghatta Road here. Joji was riding pillion with his classmate J. Isaac on his motorcycle to reach Yeshwanthpur railway station to board a train to Kerala. Around 5.30 a.m. when Isaac was taking a U-turn near the erstwhile T. Dasarahalli City Municipal Council office, a lorry knocked down the motorcycle. While Joji was killed on the spot, Isaac was severely injured. He had been admitted to hospital, the police said. The Peenya traffic police have seized the lorry and are on the lookout for the driver.

Chain snatched

A man snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 50,000 from Indumathi, a State Bank of India employee, in MICO Layout police station limits on Tuesday. Around 7 p.m. when Indumathi was walking towards her house in SBI Colony on Bannerghatta Road, a man came from behind and snatched her chain.

He escaped on a motorcycle on which his accomplice was waiting at a distance, the police said.

In another accident on National Highway 4, a pedestrian was killed after he was knocked down by a motorcycle near Sapthagiri Kalyana Mantapa in Nelamangala police station limits around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

The dead has been identified as Murthy and efforts were on to trace his address, the police said.

Suicides

Rahul Raj (31) committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Joseph Layout in Lingarajapuram on Tuesday. The police said that the incident came to light around 5 p.m. after Rahul’s mother Savithri Raj, a teacher, returned home from work. Rahul was jobless for the past six months.

The Banaswadi police have registered a case.

In another incident, Nagesh (48) committed suicide by hanging himself at a farmhouse near Ramagondanahalli in Kadugodi police station limits on Tuesday night.

He was an alcoholic and was in debt, the police said.

Sentenced

The V Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced three youths to two years imprisonment and fined them Rs. 5,000 each for committing burglary.

The Kamakshipalya police had arrested the three, Anil Kumar (20) of Laggere, Suresh (19) of Kamakshipalya and K. Suresh (19) of Magadi Road, and filed a charge sheet against them in the court.
