TDP isolated at Floor Leaders’ meet

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party found itself isolated at the meeting of the Floor Leaders with Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy on Wednesday as leaders of other parties blamed it for paralysing the proceedings.

This came a day after the TDP claimed that floor coordination with other Opposition parties was being worked out. These efforts appeared to have received a setback as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Bharatiya Janata Party sharply differed with the main Opposition party.

After the unprecedented action of the Speaker to retire to his chambers amid the din in the House, floor leaders of various parties met the Speaker to persuade him to come back. MIM floor leader Owaisi was most vocal in his criticising the TDP and reportedly questioned whether it had the right to be the main Opposition party. He is said to have suggested suspension of any member who rushes to the podium.

TDP member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu was reported as saying that it was not right on the part of the Speaker to say that he would not conduct the proceedings till the floor leaders decided how the House should be run.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy flayed the Telugu Desam Party for trying to gain “political mileage” in the name of Backward Class welfare. Due to the TDP’s behaviour, only 10 of the 60 questions listed were answered and the House could not take up any short notice questions or short discussions or any debate under Rule 304 and 74.
