Fish workers to stage dharna today

KOCHI: Fish workers, under the leadership of Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation, will stage a dharna in front of the Marine Products Export Development Authority office in Kochi on Thursday against the Central policy favouring import of fish.

The Central policy will adversely affect the 10-lakh fishermen of the State. Moreover, there were no regulations and measures for finding out whether antibiotics and banned chemicals were used for preserving fish that would be imported. This would cause serious health hazards, the federation leaders said.

The national coastal protection campaign committee will take out marches to various Central government offices on November 21 against the proposal to dilute the Coastal Regulation Zone Act.
