PDS rice seized

NAMAKKAL: A team of district supply officials and food cell personnel seized 16 tonnes of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and arrested two persons on charges of smuggling the rice near here on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, the team conducted vehicle check up at Puthuchatram near here and intercepted a lorry. Officials found 330 bags of PDS rice in it. The personnel arrested lorry drivers Murugesan (35) and Palanisamy (19). In the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that the rice was being smuggled to Karnataka.
