Bangalore: Six persons on Wednesday waylaid Chandrappa, a civil contractor and resident of Rajagopalanagar, near the Anjaneya Temple in Karihobanahalli, in the Peenya Police Station limits, threatened him and took away his gold chain, a gold ring, Rs. 10,000 in cash and his motorcycle. In his complaint, Chandrappa, former president of Teggiguppe Gram Panchayat, said that the incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. when he was on his way to meet friends. The six reportedly assaulted him with a hockey stick. The Peenya police have registered a case. In another incident, a software engineer was waylaid by two persons who tried to rob him of his valuables near the Nimishamba Temple, near Ideal Homes, Rajarajeshwarinagar. The police said that Joy Bhattacharya, a resident of Kenchanapura, was going to his friend’s house in BEML Layout for dinner when the two stopped him and tried to take away his valuables. Mr. Bhattacharya, who put up a fight, suffered a knife wound in his hand. Mr. Bhattacharya has filed a complaint with the Rajarajeshwarinagar Police Station. SuicidePalani (54), a HAL employee, on Wednesday committed suicide at his home in Binnypet in the Jagjivan Ram Nagar Police Station limits. The police said that Palani may have taken the extreme step as he was depressed after losing his wife six months ago. His only daughter lives in Chennai with her husband, Palani’s relative Venkatesh told the police. A case has been registered. ArrestedThe Chamrajpet police arrested Babjan (20), a resident of Valmikinagar, on Sunday, and seized gold, silver jewelleries, TV and DVD players valued at Rs. 2.5 lakh. According to the police, the accused used to make forcible entry to locked houses and take away valuables from there. The police said that he had stolen valuables from several houses in the J.J. Nagar, Byatarayanapura and Subramanyapura police station limits. A case has been registered. The Hanumanthanagar police on Wednesday arrested six persons, who were reportedly indulging in gambling at Shamanna Nagar, in the Hanumanthnagar Police Station limits. The police gave the names of the arrested as Shantakumar (29), Mohan Kumar (29), Srinivas (32), Manjunath (37), Suresh (35) and Venkatesh (12). The police seized Rs. 6,575 stake money and a deck of playing cards from them. A case has been registered. SentencedIn another incident, the Nandini Layout police arrested Paramesh (31), a resident of Kempe Gowda Nagar, on the charge of stealing jewellery from marriage halls in the Kamakshipalya, Rajajinagar and Vijayanagar police station limits.
