Alappuzha
ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha-based Marari Beach Resort, an outlet of the CGH Earth Group, has won the Skal International Eco-Tourism award for the best eco-friendly rural tourism project for the year 2007. Marari Beach general manager Erine Louis received the award on behalf of CGH from Skal International president Litsa Papathanassi, in the presence of Minister of Tourism of Turkey Ertugrul Gunay, during the opening ceremony of the 68th Skal World Congress held in Antalya, Turkey recently. Skal, founded in 1934, is the largest organisation of travel and tourism professionals in the world. It embraces all sectors of the travel and tourism industry and spans five continents, 87 countries and over 500 locations. MembersThe organisation currently has more than 22,000 members ranging from hoteliers and travel agents to airlines, tourism media, and tourism academies among others. According to a release from the Marari resort, its award came in the category of rural accommodation and overcame competition from similar projects in Kenya and South Africa. The resort recently won the State Tourism award as well.
