KASARAGOD: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the golden-jubilee celebrations of the Government College here at 10 a.m. on Sunday, C.T. Ahmed Ali, MLA and chairman of the organising committee, and V. Gopinathan, Principal and general convener of the committee, have said. At a press conference at the college on Thursday, Mr. Ahmed Ali said P. Karunakaran, MP from Kasaragod, would be the chief guest at the function. Mr. Ahmed Ali himself will preside. P.A. Ashraf Ali, chairman of the programme committee, will welcome the gathering. The meeting will felicitate persons who had been associated with the college from its beginning. They include the Nationalist Congress Party leader Kodoth Govindan Nair; the former MP Hamid Ali Shamnad; K.A. Shetty, captain, and P.K. Sheshadri, professor. All MLAs from the district and the district panchayat president will speak. Mr. Gopinathan said the celebration committee was planning to build a state-of-the-art library complex at the college. The estimated cost was Rs. 2 crore. He said a series of seminars on various topics would be held at the college as part of the celebrations. It would begin with a history seminar. K.N. Panicker, Rajan Gurukkal and other historians will participate.
