ALL FOR HIS BLESSINGS: Devotees participating in the flag-hoisting ritual at Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai on Thursday. — TIRUVANNAMALAI: Thousands of devotees thronged Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple here to witness the flag-hoisting ritual, marking the commencement of the 10-day ‘Karthigai Deepam’ festival on Thursday. Satyabrata Sahoo, Tiruvannamalai Collector, V. Balakrishnan, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai district, K. Pitchandi, Tiruvannamalai MLA, V. Dhanusu, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the temple, P. Vasunathan, Deputy Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and executive officer of the temple, and Board trustees P. Govindan, A. Banumathi Arunagiri, K. Manivarma and R. Srinivasan were present. The ‘utsavar’ deities of Sri Vinayakar and Sri Chandrasekharar will be taken in procession in the mornings on all days from Friday to Tuesday and on the mornings of November 22 and 23. The ‘Maharathams’ will be taken out in a procession through the four ‘mada’ streets on November 21 on the seventh day of the festival. The ‘Bharani Deepam’ will be lit inside the temple on November 24 and the ‘Maha Deepam,’ atop the Annamalai Hills on November 24.
